DSC_4345 RelaxingSometimes the rigors of your daily routines can get to be just too much. At times even the simplest of tasks seem daunting and unforgiving. If you have a child battling cancer, then you know more than most, just how taxing life can be day-to-day. So this week we've decided to give Mom and Dad a break from the normal regiments and talk about something less demanding.

So how many times have you or your children said “I have nothing to do?” So rarely is this true. Sometimes all it takes is alittle creative thinking and wham! A fun day is born!
Here's a terrific list of simple activities and outings everyone in your family can enjoy that don't take much effort all around. Some only take a few minutes, some can be an afternoon project, but they're all fun and are of little or no cost at all.  Enjoy!

  1. Gather up a few friends and have a picnic in your backyard.
  2. Go on a walk and take pictures of the beauty of nature. Trees, flowers, animals and clouds.
  3. Volunteer at the local animal shelter or homeless shelter.
  4. Bake some cupcakes and deliver them to friends and family. (Your house always smells good afterwards too!)
  5. Play some childhood games like Sorry, Candyland or Twister.
  6. Look through old family scrapbooks, photo albums and yearbooks. (Laugh at the hair cut you or your classmate had!)
  7. Go to the movies with family or friends.
  8. Window shop.
  9. Make fresh, homemade fruit smoothies.
  10. Plant flowers in your yard.
  11. Make a mixed CD of your favorite songs and title it “The Soundtrack of my life.” Then dance to it! Or just turn on the radio and dance. Dancing is such a healing excercise.
  12. Lay in the yard look at the clouds and make cloud animals or at night try to find the constellations.
  13. Splash around in a kiddy pool or just lounge in it with a good book.
  14. Start a diary and write in it every day. At the end of each week look back and review your thoughts.
  15. Draw a self portrait. Who cares if you think you cannot draw. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Have fun with it!
  16. Play in the sprinklers!
  17. Go to a museum.
  18. Go for a bike ride or walk through your neighborhood park.
  19. Swing on the swings in the park and ride on the see-saw.
  20. Learn the definitions of 5 new words and how to spell them.

These things are not only fun, some keep you active, some get you thinking and others just help you relax. We all need time to unwind and time to gather our thoughts.  Enjoy yourself! You've earned these moments.
